County Wicklow is known as the Garden of Ireland, and it is not for no reason that it has acquired this reputation. There are many good gardens open to the public in the county, including Mount Usher in Ashford and Powerscourt Estate near Enniskerry. Several years ago the Wicklow Garden Festival was started where private homes would also open their gardens to public view on a few days in May or June. The festival was so popular it now runs for all the summer months with big and small gardens opening for one or more days, some providing teas. There are now other events that take place during this time such as garden parties, flower inspired meals and so on. Details can be got from the Irish tourist board. |
