Muckross House just outside Killarney town sits on the edge of Muckross Lake. It was built in 1843 in a Tudor style. There are 65 rooms in this wonderful mansion which are open to the public. there are many items of beautiful furniture and paintings. It is now no longer only a house but is the Kerry Folklife Centre where craft workers can be seen at their trades such as potters, weavers and so on. there is also an exhibition of farm machinery. There are shops and a cafe too. There are also wonderful gardens with many rhododendrons and azaleas blooming in May and June, a rock garden and water garden. |
