Back to an Irish Christmas

You will need:

1 onion
whole cloves
1 pint milk
225g / 8 oz white bread crumbs
15 g /1/2 oz butter

Method:

Peel the onion and stud it with a few cloves.  How many depends on your taste, but about 6-8 is about right.  Put the onion in a mall saucepan with the milk and bring to the boil.  Remove from heat and leave about 20-30 minutes then remove the onion.  Add the breadcrumbs  and the butter and stir in well.  Season with salt and pepper.  Cook for another 10 minutes or so stirring all the time.  The sauce should be thick but fairly smooth.  Serve hot with turkey.
